OjO

Premium on-demand scooter rental network

OjO electric scooter

Problem

OjO, a disruptor in urban mobility, sought to create a quick-to-market mobile app for their on-demand scooter rental network. With fierce competition, a tight launch deadline, and a diverse user base, the challenge was large — but exciting. They needed an app that would stand out, offering features like scooter tracking, secure payments, and safety guidelines.

Market Research

Due to the short timeline of this app's design phase, I used existing apps within the same market as references upon which to improve.

Requirements & User Stories

The initial feature set of the app needed to be minimal but still functional for its users. After launch we would evaluate what features would be best to add next. Key user stories: Create Account, Update Billing, Browse Map, Scooter Details, Rent Scooter, and Ride History.

Docking vs. Dockless Scooters

The first design of the app was based on the concept of docks in which scooters would be parked, helping prevent scooters from being left everywhere — a common problem. Ultimately this infrastructure was proven too difficult to implement, so a geofenced parking restriction was used instead.

User Agreement & Guidelines

Once past onboarding, the user must tap through simplified screens explaining the rules of OjO and how to operate the scooters. These were legal requirements.
